Would I enjoy this as much if the protagonist wasn’t a lesbian? Probably not. But she is, so I do!
Not awe inspiring, but a fun novel that explores oppressed sexuality, a dark childhood, and a corrupt church and parents…all with evenhanded vulnerability. The book is filled with mythical tangents that are sometimes enjoyable and sometimes tedious. One of the few Winterson books where I wound up caring for the protagonist deeply!
Overall, the book was enjoyable…the TV miniseries is perhaps just as good!
