The Night Circus

I read it February of 2014!
3 stars!

I enjoyed this book, but wouldn’t wholeheartedly recommend it.

The circus and magic are intriguing and fun! Morgenstern’s use of language is generally smooth. It’s atmospheric and charming.

But the characters and their relationships feel very flat and infantile, especially the central relationship between the two main characters. Celia and Marco’s love story ends up being the focus of the book, but oh my word is it vacuous and dull! There’s no deep character-connection between them except for what the plot drives, and their dialog together is cliché and melodramatic.

I had fun, but I’m glad it’s over.
